McLoughlin Butchers has been awarded a champion gold for it’s Traditional Smoked Bone In Ham at the Australian Charcuterie Excellence Awards.
The award was presented at the Australian Meat Industry Council (AMIC) event in Sydney last week. McLoughlin Butchers also received gold awards for its Black Pudding, White Pudding and Gammon Ham Steaks, plus silver awards for its Semi Boneless Champagne Ham and specialty Irish Gammon Ham.
Owner Paul McLoughlin said the wins were a testament to all the hard work put in by the team.
“The award is really significant to us. The bone in ham category is highly compettive and so we are extremely proud of the result. It’s a great achievement for our staff who are making quality products every day for our customers.”
To receive a gold award required a minimum points score of 95/100 from the judges. On top of that, the best scoring product in each category is awarded the coveted champion gold.
This year’s Charcuterie Excellence Awards saw over 800 products submitted across 35 categories by butchers and smallgoods makers from across the country.
“The AMIC award is a stamp of quality that customers will look out for when shopping for their Christmas ham. For us it gives us a point of difference when promoting our products”, Paul said.
Mr. McLoughlin said the awards are also to be shared with the many restaurants, cafes, pubs, supermarkets and butcher shops that stock their products across Western Australia.
“Our hams are made using fresh, locally sourced free range pork and we keep our ingredients list simple. The team have decades of experience among them, which means we can produce a wide range of smallgoods that are incredibly consistent. It’s why our customers come back to us every year”.
