Butchering has never been far from our family. It all started with Joe, better known as the ‘The Boss’ and his travels from Ireland to Australia in the 1940’s. During this time he worked as a meat trader for families in the Snowy Mountains. After plying his trade at a few butcher shops in NSW, home beckoned in 1963.
Our story
Traditions passed down from our family to yours. That’s our recipe.
The inspiration
As kids back in Dublin, Paul and his siblings all helped out in the family butcher shop after school and over the holidays. On Saturday and Sunday mornings Paul remembers selling hundreds of cooked chickens. At first, it was just the Boss and the older brothers, and Paul would be left at home crying that he couldn’t come to work..
The early days
In 1994 Paul and Jasna opened their first butcher shop in Woodvale – ‘P.J. McLoughlin – Your Quality Butcher’. It was here Paul could express his butchering skills and begin building the long standing customer relationships that are still present today.
Paul’s obsession for putting his customers first led to the birth of our now famous Irish produce. The McLoughlin’s name is long gone from Woodvale but the reputation and customers remain strong 20 years later.
The Malaga move
As our reputation grew, so too did our premise. Three generations of history and experience have led us to our site in Malaga, where we are able to apply the same family traditions to our retail customers, wholesale meat suppliers and online customers across Perth and the greater WA region.
Working closely with local farmers and meat suppliers is one of the tricks of our trade. Having strong relationships is paramount to us, to ensure we can continue to adapt in an ever changing market and continue serving our customers.
The home of quality meats
Today we are just as focused on our shop customers as we are about producing quality smallgoods and meats for supermarkets, wholesale and our hospitality customers.
As our business continues to grow, the traditional shop values of quality, service and consistency will always remain. It’s what makes us the McLoughlin Butchers.
